ATLANTA 4, BOSTON 3
A passed ball by Walt McKeel allowed pinch-runner Ray Holbert to score the winning run as the Atlanta Braves rallied past the Boston Red Sox, 4-3, in Orlando, Florida.
Glenn Williams led off with a single and scored one out later on a pinch-hit double by Gene Schall. Holbert pinch-ran for Schall and scored when McKeel could not handle a pitch by Curtis Shaw, who took the loss.
Boston (3-2) took a 3-2 lead in the top of the ninth on a three-run homer by Jimmy Hurst. The Red Sox were shut down by Atlanta starter Kevin Millwood, who scattered two hits and one walk over three shutout innings.
Bret Saberhagen, who battled arm troubles last season and re-signed with the team on a one-year free-agent contract, allowed two runs and three hits with two walks and two strikeouts in two innings.
Kerry Ligtenberg picked up the win despite allowing the three-run homer for Atlanta, which improved to 2-4.
