Mo Vaughn hit three homers -- including a fourth-inning grand slam -- and drove in six runs to lead the Boston Red Sox past the Cleveland Indians, 12-9, in Winter Haven, Florida.

Vaughn sandwiched solo homers in the second and sixth around his grand slam off Jason Jacome. Dennis Eckersley (1-0) notched the victory in relief despite surrendering three runs in one inning. Rich Garces tossed a scoreless ninth to notch his second save.

Manny Ramirez had a pair of three-run homers for the Indians, who banged out 15 hits. Rich Batchelor (0-1) took the loss for Cleveland, allowing two runs and two hits in one inning.
